Some people learn handyman skills through a single trade. Wayne Routledge built his through a lifetime of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on experience.

Growing up in Crystal Beach in Ottawa’s west end, Wayne was always building, fixing, and experimenting. Even as a kid, he created his own spinning art machine using a motor and custom-built parts, charging neighbourhood kids a small fee to make artwork. It was an early glimpse into both his entrepreneurial mindset and his instinct to figure things out for himself.

As a teenager, Wayne worked at Canadian Tire doing oil changes and filters, developing a lifelong interest in cars and mechanics. By eighteen, he was helping build a barn in the country, learning framing and construction firsthand.

After high school, life took him in many directions. He hitchhiked across Canada and Europe, worked in music production, launched creative businesses, and spent years in recording studios and audiovisual work. But throughout it all, he continued developing practical skills through real-world projects and jobs.

Over the years, Wayne has:

  • Built and renovated structures
  • Installed windows and roofing
  • Worked in sign installation and home theatre wiring
  • Renovated farmhouses and cottages
  • Built recording studios
  • Learned plumbing, drywall, flooring, woodworking, and repair work through hands-on experience

One of the biggest influences on his handyman abilities came from working inside homes before drywall was installed while prewiring new builds for cable, internet, and audio systems. That experience gave him a deep understanding of how houses are constructed behind the walls — knowledge that still helps him today.

Wayne also completed two years of home inspection studies, helping formalize his knowledge of construction, safety, structure, and building systems. Combined with decades of practical experience, it gave him both the confidence to tackle projects and the judgment to know where professional trade boundaries exist.

Today, Wayne handles a wide range of handyman and repair work including:

  • Drywall and flooring
  • Fence and deck repair
  • Shed construction and tear-down
  • Driveway crack repair
  • Garage door repairs
  • Caulking and weatherproofing
  • Luxury vinyl flooring
  • Small engine repair
  • Assembly work
  • Custom shelving and woodworking
  • Plumbing repairs and soldering
  • Media and TV transfer services

What sets Wayne apart is not just the range of skills he’s developed, but the mindset behind them. He approaches every project as a problem solver and lifelong learner, often redesigning and improving things as he works. Whether it’s repairing something broken or building something custom, his approach is rooted in creativity, practicality, and decades of real experience.

For Wayne, handyman work was never just a job title. It became the natural result of a life spent building, learning, adapting, and figuring things out.
