When Yasmine Benali speaks about psychotherapy, one theme comes up again and again: people need space.

Not just space to talk, but space to slow down, reflect, and truly be heard.

As the founder of Unrushed Life Therapy, Yasmine has built her practice around a simple yet powerful belief—that every person already has the capacity to heal and grow when they’re given the right environment.

Her journey to psychotherapy wasn’t a straight line.

Originally from Morocco, Yasmine began her career in business before moving into Human Resources, spending nearly 15 years working in recruitment and organizational culture. While she enjoyed working with people, she realized something was missing. Too often, the focus was on the organization rather than the individual.

After moving to Canada a decade ago, she discovered psychotherapy and immediately recognized that it aligned with who she had always been—a resilient, people-focused person who genuinely enjoys understanding others.

That realization led her to complete her master’s degree and begin a new career helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges.

More Than Just Talking

One of the biggest misconceptions about therapy, Yasmine explained, is that people think it’s simply having someone listen.

While listening is certainly part of the process, effective therapy goes much deeper.

A skilled therapist is paying attention to patterns, beliefs, behaviours, emotional responses, and the subtle ways people experience the world. The goal isn’t to tell clients what to do or solve their problems for them. Instead, it’s to help them better understand themselves and uncover their own ability to move forward.

Her therapeutic approach is rooted in the person-centred philosophy developed by psychologist Carl Rogers—a model built on the belief that people are naturally capable of growth when they feel genuinely accepted, understood, and supported.

Why “Unrushed” Matters

The name Unrushed Life Therapy perfectly reflects Yasmine’s philosophy.

Modern life moves at an incredible pace. From work deadlines and family responsibilities to constant notifications and endless to-do lists, many people rarely have the opportunity to slow down.

Yasmine believes healing often begins by intentionally creating that slower pace.

Whether someone is struggling with anxiety, relationship challenges, major life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed, therapy becomes a place where they can pause, reflect, and reconnect with themselves.

Sometimes, simply having the time and permission to think differently opens the door to meaningful change.

Breaking the Stigma Around Mental Health

Yasmine also spoke openly about the stigma surrounding therapy.

Many people wonder why they would talk to a therapist when they already have friends or family.

Her answer is simple: the role of a therapist is different.

Friends and loved ones care deeply, but they are naturally part of the situation. A therapist provides a confidential, non-judgmental space while bringing professional training to recognize patterns, ask meaningful questions, and guide lasting personal growth.

As someone who works with many multicultural clients—including those from North African, Middle Eastern, and other diverse backgrounds—Yasmine understands that trust often takes time to build. She intentionally creates a welcoming environment that respects each person’s cultural values and lived experiences while helping them move toward meaningful change.
